The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin work this month on a $14.9M project to mill and resurface a 6.9-mile segment of U.S. 98, from Josie Road in unincorporated Mary Esther to Florida Place SE in Fort Walton Beach. FDOT anticipates the project will be completed in Fall 2024.
During construction, drivers and bicyclists may encounter periodic detours, lane closures and minor traffic shifts. Lane closures will be limited to 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
Additional Improvements include:
- Minor widening of shoulders and at intersections throughout the project limits.
- Upgrading sidewalks and pedestrian crossings to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
- Drainage improvements.
- Signalization upgrades.
- New signage and pavement markings.
